
Braided Cable Cowl Knitting Pattern

Description – This soft and warm cowl fits loosely around the neck. The cable stitch runs through the center of the cowl, and seed stitch is used on either side. The cowl lays flat without needing to block.
Materials – 1 skein Love’s Grace Farms Lopi-style yarn – any color
Knitting needles – 8 mm or US size 11 (or size to match gauge)
Yarn needle and/or latch hook for finishing
Size: One size – fits loosely around neck for adult females
Gauge (in seedstitch pattern): 4 rows = 1 inch; 3 stitches = 1 inch
Finished Measurements: 9“ vertical x 22” circumference

CO – provisional cast on
sts – stitches
RS – right side
sl – slip
wyif – with yarn in front
k – knit
p – purl
WS – wrong side
dpn – double pointed needle (you can use a cable needle, too)
FC – front cross – sl 2 sts to dpn and hold in front, p1, then k2 from dpn
BC – back cross – sl 1 st to dpn and hold in back, k2, then p1 from dpn
BO – three needle bind-off
Instructions
CO with provisional cast on – 33 sts
1. (WS) sl 1 wyif, p1, k2, p2, k2, (k2, p2) twice, k1, (p2, k2) twice, (k2, p2) twice.
2. (RS) sl 1 wyif, k1, p2, (k2, p2), p2, k2, p2, sl next 3 sts to dpn and hold in back, k2, sl the purl st from dpn back to left-hand needle and purl it, then k2 from dpn; p2, k2, p2, (p2, k2) twice.
3. (WS) sl 1 wyif, k1, p2, (k2, p2) 3 times, k1, (p2, k2) 4 times.
4. (RS) sl 1 wyif, p1, (k2, p2) twice, FC, BC, p1, FC, BC, p2, (k2, p2) twice.
5. (WS) sl 1 wyif, p1, k2, p2, k2, (k3, p4) twice, k3, (k2, p2) twice.
6. (RS) sl 1 wyif, k1, p2, k2, p2, p3, sl next 2 sts to dpn and hold in back, k2, then k2 from dpn; p3, sl next 2 sts to dpn and hold in front, k2, then k2 from dpn; p3, (p2, k2) twice.
7. (WS) sl 1 wyif, k1, p2, (k2, p2), (k3, p4) twice, k3, (p2, k2) twice.
8. (RS) sl 1 wyif, p1, (k2, p2) twice, BC, FC, p1, BC, FC, p2, (k2, p2) twice.
9. (WS) Repeat row 1.
10. (RS) sl 1 wyif, k1, p2, (k2, p2), p2, k2, p2, sl the next 3 sts to dpn and hold in front, k2, then sl the purl st from dpn back to left-hand needle and purl it, then k2 from dpn; p2, k2, p2, (p2, k2) twice.
11-16. Repeat rows 3 through 8.
Repeat rows 1-16 until piece measures approximately 22 inches. End with Row 16.
Use 3-needle bind-off to seam together live stitches from first and last rows.
